FALL 2013
Expressive Arts Program
 for Cancer Patients & Caregivers
to relax, play and enjoy some creative magic!

Much of the suffering in the world comes from the delusion that we are separate from one another.

~ Shakyamuni Buddha

Fridays Nov. & Dec. 2013

Hope Made Visible Flags

Prayer Flags have been used in Nepal and Tibet as a symbolic means to promote peace, compassion, strength and wisdom. Traditionally they are hung outdoors where the wind passes through the flags carrying the message and blessings to all people...words and symbols dissolving into the wind and being spread to all whom the wind touches.

~ ~ ~

Call for Entries: Hope Made Visible™: Sharing prayer flags among cancer patients, survivors and caregivers.

See a slide show of the flags that we have received so far!

“SDCRI Prayer Flags Video’s”

Our Expressive Arts Therapy program has been engaging our patients and their caregivers making Prayer Flags in various art media. They will be exhibited in 2014 at the Encinitas Community Center and at the Oceanside Museum of Art – other venues in the works. If interested in learning more about this global initiative and to participate, please contact us at 760-536-7679, email Alessandra@AlessandraColfi.com or maryh@sdcri.org, and visit www.sdcri.org for details.

A Mala is a string of beads that was developed to keep the mind focused on the practice of meditation. Mala beads are seen across cultures and spiritual traditions all over the world.

The use of meditation beads, also known as "mala beads," can help you achieve restful, enlightening meditation by helping you keep your mind focused on your breath.

By its very nature, the mind tends to wander  off during the meditation practice. At such times, the mala provides the much needed anchor.

The mala beads are moved in rhythm with the breath, so that sleep as well as excessive mental distraction are prevented by this simple tactile feeling and counting of the beads.

Meditation Beads (Mala)

Stay tuned for upcoming dates
